This painting was inspired by seeing the Alfanzina Lighthouse from a boat while traveling in Lagos, Portugal. Looking out at the landscape, I was struck by how bright and solid the the lighthouse felt against the sky, surrounded by all that green and open space.
I painted this from memory and photos back at our rental, focusing more on the feeling of being there than on perfect detail. The loose watercolor and fresh greens capture how alive and windswept the scene felt.
